Gift from the universe

Meet our new silky soft pawed friend and don’t mind the claws :-) He arrived a little less than 2 months ago, slightly injured he demanded entrance to our house. Needless to say, we let him in. For the first few weeks he was very smelly which gave him the name Rinker because it rhymes with Stinker. We had toyed with other names like Hamish and Harvey but he got stuck with Rinker… Rinker it a real name though. Rinker Buck is the author of one of my favorite aviation books, Flights of Passage. I think its a nice name.

Now that Rinker doesn’t stink much anymore he is also called Rinks, Rinkydink, Rinkster… depending on what he’s up to. He is an adorable, well tempered little cat, still very much a kitten. Not the brightest of cats I think but the final verdict is still out on that. We are still getting to know him. He is very playful, very affectionate and social. He tends to hang out with one of us at all times. If he isn’t between my legs while I’m doing things around the house he is lying on John’s table or cuddles up with Morle asleep on a bed somewhere upstairs.
Here a poem I found a few years back when we lost Hermione. Rinker reminds me of her at times. He’s as crazy as she was and looks a bit like her, too.
To Love Again

Oh what unhappy twist of fate

Has brought you homeless to my gate,

The gate where once another stood

To beg for shelter warmth and food?

For from that day I ceased to be

The master of my destiny,

While she, with purr and velvet paw

Became within my house the law.

She scratched the furniture and shed

And claimed the middle of my bed,

She ruled in arrogance and pride

And broke my heart the day she died.

So if you really think, oh cat

I’d willingly relive all that,

Because you come forlorn and thin

Well don’t just stand there – come on in!
