22nd of December – first sock

No, it’s not Friday yet! But i can’t wait until Friday to post about this. I’ve knitted my first sock, great, only to discover that it is too small for the person I was going to give it to as a Christmas present. I thought it would stretch but when I tried it on to see it fit I realized it would never fit a man’s foot, the ankle is just too tight. I mean it does fit (me) and it does so very well but it’s never going to fit on his foot. So now I’m going to have to do at least another sock in 48+ hrs?? Tight for time for another hopefully not so tight sock!

All in all I’m pleased though. And all this talk of socks has got Beth and me thinking, we want to host a sock knitting event in January. Watch this space! And come and join us.

The heel is knitted with double yarn to reinforce it, it looks a bit bulky in the image but it does fit fine.

I didn’t have a knitting pattern and the instructions that came with the wool said something about reducing after finishing with the heel if necessary, I did that but now I know it wasn’t necessary. Ah well, I guess this is the bonus pair for the knitting person when all is done!
