18th of December – advent wreath

December 18th, 2010 at 14:33

When I was a child we always celebrated the advent period, lighting another candle on the wreath with every Sunday that passed in the four weeks before Christmas. I love the advent period and the counting up to Christmas in this quite sort of way, lighting candles. And I’ve made us wreaths every year since we’ve met in 1998. The advent wreath tends to be the first bit of Christmas decoration up in our house and if the tree is out in the hallway as it is this year, the advent wreath is often the main seasonal decoration in the living area.

I rarely managed to make the wreath in time for the first advent, this year all records were broke, though. Tomorrow is the forth advent and I only finished this yesterday.

Last year I made a door wreath.

And the year before the advent wreath was the only decoration we had, no Christmas tree in 2008, I was in hospital.

I like a simple, not to sparkly look but I’m making mental note to make sure to come up with a new kind of design for next year.

A happy advent to you all!

How beautiful! We have an advent wreath at our church, but I never thought of having one at home. What a nice idea – and well made, too.
