22nd of January – gardening labels

January 22nd, 2011 at 17:46

I made some plant labels for my garden from the clay. The growing season will start soon and it’s nice to know what’s growing where. These are non-essentials but practical and hopefully pretty. I used two of my stone carved stamps just for fun on some of them. I can’t wait to see them fired and all terracotta, though I’m tempted to use coloured slip on some of these, possibly all? I will need about 2 dozen for my various vegetable beds so I will be able to experiment. I might do all my kiln and glaze testing on these, to see which glazes work best on my garden clay. And when I they are done I can always make more and go into production. I think these would be rather nice things to sell at a farmers market or on etsy.

I don’t think these are much to look at yet and my photography is poor, I’m sorry. But I just wanted to share these today because I’m excited about them.

Great idea! They will be so pretty in the garden once spring comes and new green growth and flowers surround the tags!

They are lovely! I am caught by your line “hopefully pretty” I think I know what you meant … but my mind wrapped around how hopeful the act of gardening and planning for a garden is…and so these are full of hope…they are truly “hopefully pretty”!

You can sell those anywhere, they would be great, especially if you offered special orders……’cause not everybody grows the same things.
