11th of february – back from the kiln

February 11th, 2011 at 19:15

I went to pick up some of the pottery that got fired while I was away. All the pieces I made from my own clay survived fine, unfortunately the two pieces I had turned on the wheel from white clay didn’t make it and got chucked out by the person operating the kiln. never mind. Today I start by showing you my first ever bowl turned on the wheel.
.

.
Can you tell I’m extremely happy with this one?
And up next is the first big bowl I made last year.
.

.
And the last image also shows the plate along with the other two items.
.

.
While I was away I visited a pottery Gallery in Leibzig, in Germany. I got to speak to one of their artists/potters. She gave me excellent advice and ideas on how to work with this clay when glazing.
The two pieces I shaped by hand are very light and thin and I will have to think long and hard as to what to do next so that they don’t burn black in the next firing.

Have you seen the yarn/knitting bowls on Etsy? I think you need to make some :-)
