16th of march – airport urban sketching

March 16th, 2011 at 18:49

Yesterday, I booked my ticket and will soon travel up to the airport.

I love early morning flights with some time to spare. The terminal building in Dublin Airport is situated north of the runway. On good days you can see the Wicklow mountains in the distance. Maybe it’s the proximity to the sea that causes the morning fog. It tends to linger until the sun rises and burns it off.

7 am Dub – watercolour 10″x2.5″ (21×6 cm)
I painted this from a photo I took 5 years ago. Now that I’ve done a few real life sketches I have to say, it is a very different experience, better? Different!

    I totally love this sketch.
Not just because I love airport, also because I can basically feel the morning-atmosphere on this picture. And besides that, getting on an airplane is just about the best (ahem, and ONLY) reason the get up that early…

Happy St. Patricks Day! It’s the perfect weather for a proper irish holiday…. it’s raining. Even the SPD I spent on Hawaii it rained the whole day… just to make the irish feel right at home. I’m rocking my green hoodie today and wishing spring will come back soon…
