26th of march – small town urban sketch

March 26th, 2011 at 23:55

Saturdays is farmer’s market day in Gorey. It is the day of the week I usually cycle down into the village to get a few things at the market, go to the library and run other errands.
Today I had to go to the pharmacy to fill a prescription. Where we are, that means you go into a pharmacy, give in your prescription to one of the ladies at the counter, then you wait somewhere around 10-15 min before eventually one of the pharmacists comes to the front and hands you your drugs in a paper bag with your name printed out on a sticky label fixed to the outside of the bag. I prefer to do anything but sit or stand at the counter waiting. So today I thought these few minutes of waiting could be used elsewhere. I had brought my painting and sketching kit and so I made for the bench at the bus stop (yes, we only have one bus stop and often I sit there thinking damn if only I had my kit with me…) just outside the pharmacy. The main street was absolutely chocker blocked with traffic, but I suppose the nice thing about sketching is, you can leave out anything you don’t care much for.

I think I will leave this one the way it is without colour. I might do another one with colour some other day when the trees have gone green.

I’m so glad you brought your supplies with you! I find this sketch very appealing. Well done!

Visiting from Creativity Everyday challenge, Great idea to use those spare moments, and that way we get so much more time for creativity.
