30th of march – bandstand on the pier

March 30th, 2011 at 7:18

bandstand on Dun Laoghaire pier – watercolour

Dun Laoghaire pier is quite long (1290m). There are many people who use the pier as a place to exercise, walking, running, cycling the length of the pier and back which makes for a mile of exercising once up and down it. But what I love most about it, is when you go out there you are out at sea. You are in the elements, walking on solid granite, in the fresh sea air under the open sky with water all around. Its a spectacular place in all weather conditions and during all hours of the day. Early morning can treat you you to spectacular sunrises. You can often see seals or porpoises in the waters just outside the harbour walls.
It is definitely one of my favorite places when one compares urban metropolitan settings.
