1st of November – it’s the creative time of year

November 1st, 2011 at 19:49

November is NaNoWriMo time! And it is also ArtEveryDayMonth. And I’m using this as a really good reason to return to my blog world in earnest. Yes, I still have the Instabug, but I also feel I need to work a bit more on my creativity and my art.

As today is also Dia De Los Muertos it is a great day to start my month of creative overdrive with a selection of photos I took of the things I made for the latest art swap with some of my online friends. So, if you are Rachel, Amy, Angie, Kelly or Beth, be warned, this post is a spoiler, if you don’t want to see what is making it’s way across the Atlantic as we speak, don’t read beyond right HERE!

This years swap to celebrate the day of the dead had a theme. It was fabric. So I dug out my old sewing machine and went to work making five little kits in fabric sleeves with various designs. True to the joyful spirit of the DoD I used colourful, happy fabric and used either a butterfly or my own little celtic knot design ghost on the front cover.
As my friends come from a mix of creative backgrounds I made two needle sewing kits and three pencil sketching kits.
.

.
The kits are about 10cm x 10cm for the small ones and 10cm x 15 cm for the bigger ones.
Inside they are all slightly different.
.

.
Here details of one of the butterflies and one of the celtic knot ghost I sewed onto the front. The stitching is very uneven, I had some trouble getting the sewing machine to stop knotting into big thread messes at the back of the fabric.
.

.

.
Happy Dia de los Muertos to you all, a happy AEDM and NaNoWriMo to all of you who are joining me on those two quests.
