curved / acrylic on canvas 16″ x 16″ (40×40 cm)

A blank canvas is something that I face intimidated and I feel I have to muster up some bravery. This is my second try, and I’ve decided to keep it. I actually painted over my first try, some of you might remember the little water colour I did instead.

I had an image in my head (and in this case I also had an old photograph) I wanted to turn into a painting. I used a thick brush (no 5) and lots of acrylic paint – medium yellow, red and titanium white – I put three big blobs on my tray, mixed them and then I started to apply the colour nearly like a bit of plaster, something on the verge of three dimensional. As I painted this curved body ‘grew’ onto the canvas.

Oh, and the painting was still wet when I took the photograph.
