Stuck in January?

February 16th, 2010 at 14:48

Today I continue to work on the guardian angel. I had to let the trunk dry a bit (over night) so I could attach some shoulders and more this morning.

I really enjoy the sculpture work. Many, many moons ago I studied for a degree and I had to learn all about human anatomy. Now I revisit that time in my life and try to create a body with my tools/hands. Quite an experience. It is fun. While i work I remember drawings from text books of the different muscles, which bone they connect to and what part of the body they move. It’s strange, you push your tool into the clay and the muscles become more defined and look stronger. I want this angel to be strong, powerful, graceful… I hadn’t intended to create something so life like, accurate but that’s the way it’s going at the moment.

Yesterday evening I started on the wings but mashed them up and put the clay back into the bucket. I don’t know much about feathers and wings… yet.

So I leave you with a snapshot of my progress about 2 hrs ago. I’ll go back and do some more work in a minute.

How interesting it must be watch a human/angel form from working a chunk of clay. The neck and collar bones are so life like.
