dreaming of wings

March 16th, 2010 at 18:05

Today, after dinner I doodled in my new sketchbook. Note to self: Don’t use water colour pencils, too much liquid makes the image come through on the other side of the page in my sketch book… But I’m getting ahead of myself. I wanted to tell you about my doodle.

Moving around some boxes I found an old set of painting pencils the other day, and I thought I try them out on a doodle for my story idea. I’m thinking of a picture book with a fairy like character. I have a story in my head and was trying to come up with a picture of this first main (?) character. Little boy with butterfly wings, brown hair, pointed ears. Turns out his suite is blue, but I’ve revised that in my head now, it will be green and brown, more earthy. I like the red wings, but they could also turn out yellow or/and orange, golden! It’s a very rough doodle but it’s a start.

I had so much excess paint and wetness that I decided to close the book and see if it would create a print.

I like the print more than the doodle. It’s like a dream of wings…
