woodblock print

October 9th, 2010 at 8:00

Yesterday, I posted about my latest quest on slip mold making, today I want to share the first output from an actual wooden print block I carved after the other two blocks were finished. It was obvious to me after my mistake with the first one, these blocks could be used for traditional wood block printing. But the one from yesterday doesn’t have the characteristic wood carving bits on the body of the block. So I made another one for just printing with ink. And no better material to be printed on than my hand made paper.

These are near enough on a one to one scale. The print is approx 2.5 x 3 inches.

I must try this again. The last time I did, I cut my hand and that put me off. But I love the result.

    Hey Evelyn
Thanks. Do try it again, I’d love to see what you come up with.
Maybe try using something other than chisels or carving knives, I’ve used my rotary tool and it works just as well and is less harmful if/when you slip.
