7th of November – first sketchbook page

November 7th, 2010 at 6:00

A few weeks ago a good few of my online friends got into the sketchbook project. I was tempted by it, I must admit. But at the same time when I read about the tour of the finished sketchbooks would go on across the States I realized that I will probably never get to see this wonderful collection for real. I also looked at the costs and found it prohibitively expensive under our current circumstances. And so I had to let it go.

However, during that time I had gone up to the big smoke (that’s what we call Dublin here in rural Ireland) and found this rather nice square artist sketchbook. I have to admit, I have a few, but none of the ones I have flip over like this particular one, nor do any of the ones I’ve accumulated over the years contain artist paper suitable for watercolours. And so I’ve decided to make an effort to fill this one with – dedicated artwork -in a same kind of theme way as the sketchbooks would be for the sketchbook project.

One of the ideas I had for the AEDM was to do a pencil sketch or watercolour painting of what I can see around me in our house every day, for a month or until the book is full which ever happens first. I thought that would be the easy option to fulfill the objective of the challenge. But we are now a week into the challenge and I have yet to submit any of the work I’ve done in the sketchbook so far. So out goes the idea of a sketch a day. But I’ve started on a few pencil sketches from what’s around me. Here is a sketch I drew from the photo J took of our cat while I was making clay the other day.

I blew by for a visit today because your comment on Leah’s bird/tree painting was so captivating and lovely in its image of leaves and birds caught in the wind:) I love your sketchbook idea, too! Great job on your rendition of Morle:)

Great sketch and start to your sketchbook! The way you are doing it is much more relaxing than participating in the SBP!

    Looking forward to seeing more!
