6th of November – making stamps

November 6th, 2010 at 15:31

The other day I used one of my stone carving pebbles of a fish to make an imprint in the clay of the bowl that I made. Now that I have a lot more clay to be working with I thought I might start working on some more stamps for decorating the pottery pieces.
Looking for suitable pebbles I rummaged through the box of pebbles I keep in my room and I found a few of the early trial and error pieces I made quite a while ago. I found this one pebble of a hawk for Liam, a pebble carving I made for Amy at the beginning of this year. The pebble that was in the box was the trial one I didn’t send out to her. And when I pressed it into a piece of very fresh clay it looked just stunning! It’s far better than the swallow I made two days ago, or the new one, the cat, that I carved this morning.

The hawk is my favorite also because he is such an unexpected visitor. Thank you, Liam.
