mail art – thoughts on week three of the artmooc

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

This weeks videos were about correspondence art. To be perfectly honest, I was a little bit disappointed by both the teaching material and the subject itself.

I thought about what i would submit for the best part of the entire week because I did make sure to watch the videos at the beginning of the week and so my disappointment was somewhat fueled by a suddenly curbed enthusiasm that carried over from the previous week.

I have done a lot of mail art over the last two years just click on the ATC link in the tag cloud to the left to see some examples. While I watched Anna Divinsky make an envelope, it reminded me of the days when letter writing was all I had to stay in touch with friends and family all over the world. Nowerdays I don’t write many letters anymore. Instead I write emails and i often include photographs. That is my kind of mail art.

So for a while I toyed with the idea of making another touchstone and stick that into an envelope and send it off in a fancy envelope. But it felt too much like just going through the motions and ‘doing’ an assignment and that’s not why I wanted to do this course.

So I skipped the submission for week three.
